Bunnings is the leading retailer of home improvement and outdoor living products in Australia and New Zealand and a major supplier to project builders, commercial tradespeople and the housing industry.

Experience Designers at DT are 'booked' not more than one year on one client. 2015 - 2016 I acted as the full-time User Experience Lead for the Bunnings account, where I could provide expertise, guidance and mentorship for younger XD people, and deliver wireframes, strategic thinking, user research insights and visual design guidance for more than 50 projects for Australia's largest DIY retail website.

Medium Scale Projects (1 - 3 months)

DIY Information Architecture

Restructuring of the DIY sitemap for Bunnings in conjunction with SEO and content providers. Validation of approach with online card sorting exercises and usability tests.

Supplier Brands

Concepts for relevant pages and extensions of the Bunnings website to accommodate supplier branded content.


Workshop Community

Experience Lead for the initial launch of Bunnings' own community for DIY enthusiasts (based on Lithium Social Software for Customer Community Management). After launch several improvements and extensions of overall user experience.

House Brand Microsites

Creation of wireframes for reusable templates for Bunnings house brands (e.g. Mondella, Matador) that are standalone microsites, but used the Bunnings product database.


Grouped Products

Wireframes for all possible cases that occur when Bunnings launched grouped products (e.g. carpets in different colours, timber in different sizes). Wireframes covered product tiles (used on search and category pages) and product pages.

Usability Tests

Planning, setup and execution of multiple usability test in lab environments and online, moderated and unmoderated. 


60+ projects

Over the course of 12 months, my work influenced more than 60+ projects for Bunnings Warehouse, Bunnings New Zealand, and the Workshop community. Besides working on the tools, I mentored Junior Experience Designers and was responsible for the rollout and management of Jira for the Experience team.
